Adirondack Phantoms News Release
WEEK IN REVIEW
Wednesday, November 15 - Syracuse 5, Phantoms 2: Geoff Platt scored two goals and Jarislov Balastik added two assists to boost the Syracuse Crunch over the Philadelphia Phantoms by a 5-2 count in the annual School Day Game at the Wachovia Spectrum, with over 6,000 students among the 7,433 in attendance. Syracuase raced out to a 3-0 lead in the game's first five minutes on goals by Mark Hartigan, Ryan Caldwell and Platt. The onslaught ended Martin Houle's day early and brought Scott Munroe into the game in relief. Philadelphia made a dent in the deficit when Niko Dimitrakos scored with 4:25 left in the first period. That count stood until late in the second period, when the teams traded a pair of goals. First, it was Joe Motzko tallying for the Crunch at 17:45 to push his team's lead to 4-1, but Eric Meloche answered with 53 seconds left. Platt finished out the scoring on a shorthanded breakaway at 10:51 of the third. The teams each put 24 shots on goal. Houle absorbed the loss, while Munroe took third star honors with 19 saves on 21 Syracuse shots in relief. Conlkin earned the win with 22 saves on the 24 Phantoms shots.
Friday, November 17 - Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 3, Phantoms 2: Connor James scored with just over two minutes remaining in the second period to give the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins a 3-2 win over the Phantoms at the Wachovia Spectrum. The Phantoms opened the scoring with just 1:40 left in the first period when Jussi Timonen knocked home a rebound, but Wilkes-Barre/Scranton erased the advantage just over four minutes into the second period on a goal by Rob Schremp. Then at the 10:18 mark, Erik Christensen scored right off a face-off just two ticks into a power play, giving the Penguins a 2-1 advantage. Mark Cullen tied it up with 5:01 remaining in the second during a power play, but Wilkes-Barre/Scranton regained its one-goal edge with just 2:12 remaining in the frame on the goal by James, which would stand as the game winner. Scott Munroe made 22 saves on 25 shots in the loss, while Penner took the win with 13 saves on 15 Phantoms opportunities.
Saturday, November 17 - Albany 4, Phantoms 1: Four different River Rats scored to lead Albany over the Phantoms 4-1 at Pepsi Arena in Albany. The Phantoms started the scoring for the second consecutive night when Nolan Baumgartner scored on the power play with just 26 seconds left in the first period. But the River Rats jumped out in front with a two-goal second period. First it was Kyle Cumiskey tying the game on the power play at 8:27, followed by a Kevin Estrada marker less than two minutes later at 10:12. Ryan Bayda opened the lead up to two goals when he scored at 12:28 of the third period. Pat Dwyer closed things down for the night with an empty-netter with 1:15 remaining. Martin Houle absorbed the loss for the Phantoms with 33 saves on 36 shots, while Justin Peters took the win with 22 saves on 23 chances.
UPCOMING OPPONENTS
Friday, Nov. 24 - Phantoms vs. Albany, 7:05: The Phantoms and Albany close out a home-and-home series when they meet on Black Friday at the Wachovia Spectrum. The game is part of a tripleheader in South Philly, with the Flyers playing Columbus at 1:00 and the Sixers hosting Chicago at 7:30. The Phantoms are looking to derail the Rats after dropping the first two games of the season between the clubs, including a loss on Nov. 3 that was the first to Albany in Philadelphia since Dec. 9, 2000. Albany starts the week just two points ahead of the Phantoms in the East Division standings with a record of 8-8-1-0 for 17 points.
Saturday, Nov. 25 - Phantoms at Norfolk, 7:15: Philadelphia will try to slow down the surging Norfolk Admirals when they visit Norfolk Scope on Saturday night. The Ads start the week atop the East Division and the entire Eastern Conference with a record of 12-2-1-1 for 26 points. The overtime loss in Norfolk's record came here in Philadelphia on October 6, when the Phantoms took a thrilling 5-4 win on the strength of a Stefan Ruzicka natural hat trick. Martin St. Pierre and Brandon Bochenski both rank in the top 10 in the league in scoring, with St. Pierre posting 26 points on five goals and 21 assists while Bochenski has 24 points on 11 goals and 13 assists.

LITNETS MAKE DEBUT
The Phantoms became the first AHL team to host the use of a lighted net in Wednesday's 5-2 loss to the Syracuse Crunch. Known as "Litnets", the goal has 1500 LEDs in the posts and crossbar that light up when the Phantoms score a goal. The net will be used again this Friday when the Phantoms host Albany. High-resolution photos of the net in action are available by contacting the Phantoms PR department.
PHANTOMS NOTABLES
In the third period of Friday's 3-2 loss to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, the Phantoms tied two team records relating to shots in a period when the Phantoms had one shot and Wilkes-Barre had four. It marked the eighth time in franchise history the Phantoms have been held to a single shot in a period. Also, the two-team total of five shots tied a franchise record for fewest total shots in a period, originally set on March 26, 1997 in a 3-2 loss to St. John's. That was during the Phantoms first season in the league.
