South Carolina Stingrays News Release

PRINCETON, N.J. – South Carolina Stingrays Head Coach Jason Fitzsimmons announced today that center Rich Peverley has been called up to the Portland Pirates, the Stingrays American Hockey League affiliate. Peverley will not be in uniform when the Stingrays host the Charlotte Checkers tonight.

The 6-0 and 190-pound rookie was the ECHL Player of the Week for the second week in January. He is currently third on the team in scoring with 27 goals and 27 assists.

"Rich has played well enough this season to deserve this chance at the next level," said Fitzsimmons. "Hopefully he can make a positive impression with the Pirates; we wish him the best of luck."

Under contract with Portland, Peverley is currently sixth in the ECHL in rookie scoring.

The Guelph, Ontario native spent four years playing collegiate hockey with St. Lawrence University, scoring 117 points (44g-73a) in 138 games, including career bests in goals (17), assists (25) and points (41) in 42 games as a senior.

The Stingrays host Charlotte tonight at the Coliseum at 7:05 for Dodge Baseball Night. Fans can bid on a Charleston Riverdogs game worn hockey jersey and enjoy the world famous Zooperstars during the intermissions.

With a Pee Dee loss in Texas last night, the South Carolina Stingrays clinched a playoff birth for the 12th straight season.
