Ice Pilots score four in first en route to win

March 26, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Augusta Lynx News Release

Four first period goals vaulted the Pensacola Ice Pilots to an eventual 7-2 win over the Augusta Lynx at the Pensacola Civic Center on Saturday night.

Aaron Phllips opened the scoring just 27 seconds into the first period, followed by goals from Ryan Vince, Corey Stillman, and Aaron Gionet to grab a 4-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.

Stillman's second goal of the night made it 5-0 at 5:15 of the second period, but Ken Magowan would give Augusta some life with a pair of power play goals for the Lynx at 6:11 and then 18:28 of the middle frame. Louis Goulet assisted on both goals, while Sean Connolly and Jamie Johnson added single helpers to get Augusta within three goals at the end of two periods of play.

Alex Materukhin and Aaron Phillips would score a pair of power play markers in the third to tack on the insurance for the Ice Pilots and close out the scoring. Frederic Cloutier made 27 saves for his 29th win of the year, while Jason Saal took the loss with 41 saves.

With the win, Pensacola clinches the Southern Division and American Conference titles.

The Lynx are back in action this Tuesday night in Columbia against the Inferno at 7:05 pm. Pre-game show kicks off one half-hour before game time on your Home for Lynx Hockey, NEWSTALKSPORTS 1630.
