Everblades knock off Salmon Kings 5-2

ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (39-19-9) scored twice in a 12-second span midway through the third period to help knock off the Victoria Salmon Kings 5-2 at Germain Arena.

The Everblades exploded out of the gate, scoring three times in the first nine minutes of the game. Brent McDonald, Kris Vernarsky, and Keith Anderson all scored to stake the Everblades to the fast 3-0 lead. However, the Salmon Kings (14-59-5) battled back to notch a late first period goal by Chris Corrinett and then cut the lead to one with a power play goal at 16:15 of the second period by Mark Smith.

Leading 3-2 in the third period, Brad Church and Steve Saviano scored at 9:47 and 9:59 respectively to give Florida an insurmountable 5-2 lead.

The Everblades, who took 13 shots in the first period, out-shot the Salmon Kings 29-19 in the game.

Tyler MacKay collected the win in goal for the Everblades to raise his record to 15-7-2, and Robert Muntain suffered the loss between the pipes for Victoria, falling to 2-3-0.

Florida finished the night 1-for-6 on the power play, while the Salmon Kings converted on one of their three opportunities. With the win, Florida closed out the season series with a 2-1-0 record vs. Victoria.

The Everblades return to action for their final road trip of the season on Thursday, March 31 at Columbia, SC. The Everblades and Inferno face-off at 7:30 p.m. at the Carolina Coliseum.
