Myrtle Beach Thunderboltz News Release
BEAUMONT, TX â Texas' Ryan Fultz scored three goals to help lead the Texas Wildcatters past the Pee Dee Pride 3-2 on Saturday night in front of 1,779 fans at Ford Arena.
The loss extends the Pride's road winless streak to 15 games, as Pee Dee is now 0-14-1 in its last 15 games away from the Florence Civic Center.
Gregg Johnson put the Pride on the scoreboard first with his team-leading 23rd goal of the season at the 14:42 mark of the opening period. Pee Dee won a faceoff inside the Texas zone back to Jan Vodrazka at the left point. Vodrazka's shot was stopped by Wildcatters' goaltender Phil Osear, but Johnson was on the far post, and chipped the rebound over Osear's shoulder.
The Wildcatters came right back exactly two minutes later to tie the game. The Pride were unable to clear the puck out of their zone, and Fultz made them pay, gathering in the puck on the near post and blasting a shot past Sebastien Laplante for his 17th goal of the season.
Texas took a 2-1 lead to the locker room after two periods, as the Wildcatters scored with just 47 seconds remaining in the middle period. Laplante misplayed the puck behind his own net, and gave up control to Futlz. The Wildcatter forward skated to the front of the net and flipped a shot past Laplante for his second goal of the night.
The Pride tied the game 5:47 into the final period. Allan Sirois had the puck along the near wall, and sent it to the front of the net where Johnson was able to tip it through Osear's five-hole for his second goal of the night.
Fultz gave the Wildcatters the lead right back at 7:18 with his third goal of the night. Fultz took the shot from behind the goal line in the far corner of the Pride zone. The puck hit off of Laplante's leg pad and just landed across the goal line to make it 3-2 Texas.
