Traverse City Pit Spitters News Release
Traverse City, MI - The Pit Spitters won 1-0 over the Rivets on Sunday, giving them a perfect 6-0 record at home versus Rockford.
The Pit Spitters came into the game averaging 10.8 runs a game against Rockford, and 8.6 runs at home, but could only muster one run.
Once again, pitching led the way for Traverse City, this time led by Cam Schuelke. Schuelke (4-0, 0.68) one-upped Cade Heil's seven-inning shutout yesterday with an eight-inning shutout of his own. He struck out seven batters and allowed just two hits. He only allowed one runner to reach scoring position in the game. It's the second time this season Schuelke pitched an eight-inning shutout and his third straight start of 7+ innings.
Scheulke is the current league leader in ERA at 0.68, 0.64 better than the next closest qualifier. He's the only qualifying pitcher with an ERA under 1.00.
The only offense Schuelke needed came in the third inning. Trey Yunger drew a bases loaded walk with two outs, the only run of the game. Rockford's starter Jared Herzog (0-3, 5.80) allowed just three hits through five innings, getting the loss on an unearned run.
John Beuckelaere struck out the side in the ninth inning to preserve the 1-0 victory and pick up his third save.
The Pit Spitters finished their home series against Rockford 6-0 and outscored the Rivets 44-10.
