Penguins Will Face East Division Rivals 54 Times

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins will face 17 different opponents during the 2009-10 season, it was announced today by the American Hockey League.

Once again, the Penguins will play an unbalanced, 80-game schedule, which sees the club facing foes from the East Division 54 times during the upcoming campaign. The team will also face all eight teams in the Atlantic Division, as well as three teams from the North Division during the year.

The Penguins will play an equal number of home and away games against each of their opponents. The following is a complete breakdown of contests by opponent (home-away-total):

The 2009-10 regular season will begin on Oct. 2. The complete schedule will be announced later this summer.

In operation since 1936, the AHL continues to serve as the top development league for all 30 National Hockey League teams. More than 84 percent of today's NHL players are American Hockey League graduates, and for the eighth year in a row, more than 6 million fans attended AHL games across North America in 2008-09.
