Springfield, MA - The Springfield Falcons, proud members of the American Hockey League, announced today their 2009-10 scheduling format. The Falcons will once again play an 80-game schedule, 40 home games and 40 road games. Springfield will play in the eight-team Atlantic Division located within the Eastern Conference.

Once again joining the Falcons in the Atlantic Division will be the following teams: Hartford Wolf Pack (NYR), Lowell Devils (NJ), Manchester Monarchs (LA), Portland Pirates (BUF), Providence Bruins (BOS), and Worcester Sharks (SJ). New to the Atlantic Division will be the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (NYI). Springfield will play a total of 62 of their 80 regular season games within the Atlantic Division. Springfield will play Bridgeport, Hartford, and Providence 10 times each (five home and five away). The Falcons will take on Lowell, Manchester, Portland, and Worcester eight times each (four home and four away).

"We are once again very pleased with our scheduling format for the 2009-10 season," said Falcons president and general manager Bruce Landon. "Our travel schedule will once again allow our players and coaches a tremendous amount of practice time, an aspect of the game that is very important to our National Hockey League affiliate, the Edmonton Oilers."

The Falcons will also play a total of 18 contests against teams in the East Division giving Springfield a total of 80 Eastern Conference match ups for the 2009-10 campaign. Springfield will play the Albany River Rats (CAR) and Norfolk Admirals (TB) four times each, while facing the Binghamton Senators (OTT), Hershey Bears (WAS), Adirondack Phantoms (PHI), Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (PIT) and Syracuse Crunch (CBJ) twice. Syracuse made a switch from the Western Conference to the Eastern Conference starting this season.

The 2009-10 regular season will begin on October 2. The complete schedule will be announced later this summer. In operation since 1936, the AHL continues to serve as the top development league for all 30 National Hockey League teams. More than 84 percent of today's NHL players are American Hockey League graduates, and for the eighth year in a row, more than 6 million fans attended AHL games across North America in 2008-09.
