Manitoba Moose News Release

The Manitoba Moose, in conjunction with the American Hockey League, today announced the league's Board of Governors has approved conference and division re-alignment for the 2009-10 season. As a result, the Moose will welcome the Abbotsford Heat as a new member of the AHL's North Division, while former North Division opponent, the Syracuse Crunch, will now play out of the Eastern Conference's East Division.

The Heat will actually be one of three teams the Moose will play in 2009-10 for the first time ever in their history. Manitoba will face Abbotsford eight times this season (4 home games, 4 away games), as well as eight games against of their old division rivals, the Hamilton Bulldogs and the Toronto Marlies. The Moose will also face North Division opponents the Grand Rapids Griffins, the Lake Erie Monsters, and Rochester Americans four times each (2 home games, 2 away games).

The Moose will once again face-off against each member of the AHL's West Division four times, including the expansion Texas Stars, the new AHL affiliate of the Dallas Stars. Other members of the AHL's West Division now include the Chicago Wolves, the Houston Aeros, the Milwaukee Admirals, the Peoria Rivermen, the Rockford Ice Hogs, and the San Antonio Rampage.

The Moose will also play four games each against four members of the AHL's Eastern Conference, including a match-up against the Norfolk Admirals for the first-time in the franchise's 14-year history. As a result, the Moose will have now played at least one game in their history against every member of the American Hockey League. This season, Manitoba will also play the Hershey Bears in a re-match of the 2009 Calder Cup Finals, as well as the Worcester Sharks and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

The AHL's 2009-10 regular season will begin on October 2/09. The complete schedule, including the Manitoba Moose opener and home opener, will be released later this summer.
