Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins concluded their six-game homestand with a 3-1 loss to the Norfolk Admirals at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza. Admirals goaltender John Gibson made 26 saves to help his team to their 11th straight win on the Penguins home ice.

The road team went ahead, 1-0, with six minutes remaining after Rickard Rakell had his slapshot from the high slot stopped by Jeff Deslauriers, but Max Friberg was in position to tap in the rebound.

The Admirals extended their lead to two 1:59 into the second frame on a wrist shot by Nolan Yonkman from the right point that clipped off a stick in front and knuckled inside the near post.

Tom Kostopoulos cut Norfolk's lead in half at 7:28 of the same period with his team-leading 11th goal of the season. Skating on the backcheck, the Penguins captain stripped the puck from an Admirals forward at the far circle before turning toward the front of the net and letting loose a shot that beat John Gibson to the blocker side.

The 2-1 score would carry until the final minutes of regulation when Dave Steckel found Steven Whitney trailing into the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton zone for an insurance goal with 2:50 remaining in the third.

Deslauriers turned aside 19-of-22 shots to fall to 12-7-2 on the season.

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins make their way down to Hershey on Saturday, Dec. 28 to face off against the Hershey Bears at 7:00 p.m. Catch all the action on the Sports Hub 102 or AHL Live.
