Trenton, NJ)- The Trenton Thunder, Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, have announced that INF Walter Ibarra has been activated by the Thunder off of the Temporary Inactive List. SS Ramiro Pena has been placed on the Disabled List retroactive to August 10th with shoulder stiffness.
Ibarra had a .273 BA in 13 games for Trenton, with one home run and four RBI. He has hit in 10 of the 13 games for Trenton. He also has split time this season between Charleston (Low-A) and Staten Island. Ibarra started the season with the River Dogs and had a .198 BA in 27 G with one home run and 13 RBI. In 12 games for Staten Island, he has hit .224 with two home runs and six RBI. Last season, he split the season between Tampa (High-A) and the Gulf Coast League Yankees. He hit .179 in 10 games for Tampa. He had a .205 BA in 16 G for the Gulf Coast League Yankees with four RBI. He was signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Yankees on 8/23/05.
Pena is hitting .264 in 101 G with two home runs and 42 RBI this season for Trenton. He represented the Thunder and the Yankees Organization, in the Futures Game as part of the All-Star Game festivities at Yankee Stadium. During the month of June, he had a .305 BA in 26 games with one home run and 12 RBI. During 2007, Pena hit .252 with 10 RBI in 52 games. He also appeared in 26 games for the Thunder in the 2006 season. He had a .198 in 26 G with 6 RBI. He was signed by the Yankees as a free agent on 2/18/05.
Trenton opens a three-game series tonight against the Bowie Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, at Waterfront Park. Game time is set for 7:05 P.M. RHP Carl Pavano (0-0, 0.00) will be making a rehab start for the Thunder courtesy of St. Lawrence Rehabilitation Center in Lawrenceville, NJ. He will be opposed by RHP Bradley Bergesen (14-3, 3.01).
