
Pavano's rehab spoiled in loss to Baysox

(Trenton, NJ)- Bowie Center fielder Sebastien Boucher hit two home runs to lead the Baysox past the Thunder 6-2 on Tuesday night from Waterfront Park. New York Yankees pitcher Carl Pavano tossed 4 1/3 innings in his second rehabilitation start this season for the Thunder. The rehabilitation start was courtesy of St. Lawrence Rehabilitation Center in Lawrenceville, NJ.
Bowie (71-53) scored two runs in the first inning to take the lead. Boucher led off the first inning with a solo home run off of Pavano to give the Baysox a 1-0 lead. Later in the frame, Catcher Matt Wieters delivered an RBI triple to make it 2-0. The Thunder tallied a run in the second inning on an RBI double by First baseman Cody Ehlers to cut the defecit to 2-1. But, Bowie scored three times in the fifth inning to increase the lead to 5-1. After shortstop Blake Davis was hit by a pitch, Boucher belted his second home run of the night, a two-run shot off of Pavano to make it 4-1. Wieters would later connect on an opposite field double to make it 5-1. Pavano (0-1) threw 80 pitches in his second rehabilitation start for the Thunder, and gave up seven hits and five earned runs in 4 1/3 innings. He struck out three and did not walk a batter.
Bowie Starting pitcher Bradley Bergesen (15-3) went 6 1/3 innings, scattered five hits, and two earned runs to pick up the win. Bergesen's 15 wins lead the Eastern League, and he picked up his fifth straight winning decision. Trenton (73-48) Right fielder James Cooper had an RBI single in the seventh inning to account for Trenton's second run. The Thunder 3-5 hitters (Austin Jackson, Chris Malec, and P.J. Pilittere) combined to go 0 x 12 with three strikeouts. Thunder reliever Jhonny Nunez tossed 2 2/3 innings of shutout relief for Trenton in the loss. Felix Romero relieved Bergesen and hurled the final 2 2/3 innings to pick up the save for the Baysox.
Trenton will look to bounce back on Wednesday night in the middle game of the series. RHP George Kontos (4-10, 3.58) will get the ball for the Thunder against RHP David Hernandez (7-4, 2.55). Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
