
Marquez Transferred from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to Trenton

(Trenton, NJ)- The Trenton Thunder, Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, have announced that RHP Jeff Marquez has been transferred from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (Triple-A) to Trenton. RHP Steven White has been given his release by the Yankees Organization.
Marquez is 6-7 with a 4.69 ERA in 14 starts this season for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He last pitched for the Yankees on June 15th against Norfolk. He was 1-0 with a 5.40 ERA in 2 G/1 starts for the Gulf Coast League Yankees. He pitched in the GCL on August 6th and August 11th. During 2007, he had a 15-9 record with a 3.65 ERA in 27 starts for Trenton. He led the Eastern League in wins, ranked second in innings pitched (155.1 IP) and placed 10th in ERA. His 15 wins placed him second among all Double-A pitchers and tied for ninth overall in the minor leagues. The 15 wins in a season was one short of the Thunder franchise record. He started the Eastern League All-Star game on July 11th in Norwich, Conn. He made one postseason start, and tossed seven scoreless innings against Portland (9/8) in Trenton's first-round series-clinching win over Portland. He entered the season as the seventh-rated prospect in the Yankees Minor League System according to Baseball America. He is a member of the Yankees 40-man roster.
In 2006, he went 7-5 with a 3.61 ERA in 18 G/17 starts for Tampa (High-A). He also made two starts for the Gulf Coast League Yankees (0-1, 3.18). He was originally drafted by the Yankees as a first round supplemental selection (41st overall) in the 2004 draft.
White went 0-1 with a 5.59 ERA in three starts for the Thunder. He was 4-4 with a 6.28 ERA in 25 games (10 starts) for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees this season. For the Yankees, he had 53 strikeouts and 43 walks in 81.2 IP. Last season, White spent most of the season with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He went 6-4 with a 3.34 ERA in 16 G (15 starts). White also made two starts for Tampa and had a 1-0 record with a 3.65 ERA. He spent time with Trenton in 2005 and 2006. In 2005, he was 2-7 with a 6.44 ERA in 11 starts for Thunder in 2005. In 2006, he went 4-1 with a 2.11 ERA in 11 starts for Trenton. White was originally selected by the Yankees in the fourth round of the 2003 draft.
Trenton opens a three-game series tonight against the Bowie Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, at Waterfront Park. Game time is set for 7:05 P.M. RHP Carl Pavano (0-0, 0.00) will be making a rehab start for the Thunder courtesy of St. Lawrence Rehabilitation Center in Lawrenceville, NJ. He will be opposed by RHP Bradley Bergesen (14-3, 3.01).
