
Offense inconsistent in doubleheader

Manchester, NH - The Harrisburg Senators pounded out 11 hits in a 7-4 win in Game 1 of a doubleheader against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. They managed just four hits in a 2-0 loss in the nightcap.
The Senators fell behind early in Game 1. In the bottom of the 2nd, RHP Jordan Zimmermann plunked back-to-back hitters to open the frame. After a double-play ball, another better was hit by a pitch. Scott Campbell cashed in on the opportunity with a two-out RBI single to make it 1-0 Fisher Cats.
It didn't last long as the Senators exploded in the top of the 3rd. With the bases loaded and nobody out, Jemel Spearman lifted a sacrifice fly to tie the game. Mike Daniel followed with a three-run homer to give the Senators a 4-1 lead.
Zimmermann exited the game after two innings due to a high pitch count. In the bottom of the 3rd, Brian Dopirak hit a sacrifice fly to cut the margin to 4-2.
In the top of the 4th, Ian Desmond ripped an RBI single up the middle to make it 5-2 Harrisburg. The Senators had another chances later in the frame, but stranded the bases loaded.
In the 5th, Ofilio Castro nailed a two-run homer to left-center to expand the lead to 7-2.
The Fisher Cats had a major threat in the bottom of the 6th. With the bases loaded and one out, RHP Steve Schmoll entered from the bullpen and induced an RBI groundout by Campbell followed by a strikeout to end the inning with a 7-3 lead. In the 7th, Kyle Phillips hit an RBI single up the middle to make it 7-4, but Schmoll slammed the door to end the game.
RHP Carlos Martinez (4-1) went 3.1 innings to pick up the win in relief. Schmoll notched his 7th save. RHP Mike MacDonald took the loss to remain winless at 0-3.
In the nightcap, the game was scoreless until the bottom of the 6th inning. With two on, David Smith lifted a fly ball to the warning track in right, but the ball was dropped and ruled a two-run double to put New Hampshire ahead, 2-0.
In the meantime, New Hampshire RHP Jean Machi kept the Senators off the scoreboard through 6.1 innings to collect the win and move to 2-5. LHP Daryl Harang got the final two outs to notch his 2nd save of the year. LHP Justin Jones allowed two runs in 5.2 innings to take the loss and fall to 2-4.
The Senators are now 67-57. New Hampshire is now 54-70.
The Senators and Fisher Cats continue the four-game series Wednesday with RHP Adrian Alaniz (0-4, 3.84 ERA) locking horns with New Hampshire LHP Brad Mills (1-1, 0.66 ERA). Game time is set for 12:05 PM.
