Gee Impressive In Debut, But Reading Prevails

Dillon Gee tossed seven strong innings in his Double-A debut, but the Reading Phillies picked up a 3-2 win over the Binghamton Mets at NYSEG Stadium Tuesday. Binghamton's lost four in a row.

The B-Mets (63-61) led for the most of the game. In the second, singles by Ambiorix Concepcion, Shawn Bowman and Salvador Paniagua loaded the bases against Andrew Carpenter with no one out. Jose Coronado followed with a double-play groundout, scoring Concepcion for a 1-0 lead.

Binghamton increased their lead to 2-0, thanks to Caleb Stewart's homer off Carpenter (5-7) in the sixth.

Reading (49-73) cut Binghamton's lead in half in the seventh on Jeremy Slayden's homer off Gee. The righthander scattered four hits and walked one, striking out five.

Elvys Quezada (2-1) relieved Gee in the eighth and served up a two-run homer to Brad Harman.

Wednesday, the Binghamton Mets play the second game of a three-game series against the Reading Phillies. Jose Sanchez (11-6, 4.00) will start for Binghamton against Tyson Brummett (2-5, 6.29) of Reading. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at NYSEG Stadium with the radio broadcast beginning at 6:50 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.

Notes: Stewart has homered in back-to-back games for the second time this month (8/4-5 @ BOW)...Carpenter has all three of Reading's win over their last 12 games...Binghamton's bullpen has blown three saves in the last nine games since Eddie Kunz was called up to the NY Mets, losing for the fourth time when leading after the seventh inning.
