New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

Manchester, NH- Jean Machi tossed a season-high 6.1 shutout innings, Daryl Harang struck out the only two batters he faced for his second save and David Smith delivered a two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the New Hampshire Fisher Cats a 2-0 victory over the Harrisburg Senators in the nightcap of a doubleheader before 6,399 fans at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.

Harrisburg (67-57) won the opening game, 7-4.

In game two, Smith (1-for-3, 2B, 2 RBI) lifted a two-out, high fly to deep right off reliever Josh Perrault that bounced in and out of the glove of rightfielder Edgardo Baez for a double, allowing Ryan Patterson (1-for-3, R) and J.P. Arencibia (1-for-3, R), who both singled off losing pitcher Justin Jones, to score for a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Machi (2-5) outdueled Jones, scattering four hits over a 6.1 innings to notch his second victory. The right-hander matched a season high with six strikeouts and walked two -the final two batters he faced in the seventh inning.

After Garrett Guzman (0-for-2, BB) and Baez (0-for-2, BB) walked on eight straight pitchers, Daryl Harang struck out Marco Yepez (0-for-3, 2 K) and Mike Daniel (0-for-4, K) to notch his second save.

Jones (2-4) worked 5.2 innings, allowing two run on four hits. The left-hander walked one and registered three strikeouts.

In game one, Scott Campbell returned from the disabled list to drive in two runs, but Daniel and Ofilio Castro both blasted home runs to help the Senators take a 7-4 victory.

After Harrisburg starting pitcher Jordan Zimmermann hit three batters with pitches in the second inning, Campbell (1-for-3, BB, 2 RBI) slapped a single to center, scoring Kyle Phillips (1-for-3, HBP, RBI, R) for a 1-0 New Hampshire lead.

Daniel (1-for-4, HR, 3 RBI, R) tagged losing pitcher Mike MacDonald with his 13th homer of the season, a three-run shot in the top of the third inning that highlighted a four-run frame, giving the Senators a 4-1 lead. Jemel Spearman (0-for-2, SF, BB, RBI) had tied the game, 1-1, with a sacrifice fly earlier in the inning.

New Hampshire (54-70) got one back in the bottom of the third inning against winning pitcher Carlos Martinez. Arencibia (1-for-3, 2B, 2 R, BB) hit a lead-off double off the wall in deep left-center and scored on a sacrifice fly by Brian Dopirak (0-for-3, SF, RBI), making it a 4-2 Senators' lead.

Facing reliever Jared Gothreaux in the top of the fifth inning, Seth Bynum (1-for-4, 2B, R) led off with a double and came around to score when Castro (3-for-4, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R) belted his fourth home run of the year off the patio in left-centerfield for a 7-2 Harrisburg lead.

Campbell added a second RBI in the bottom of the sixth inning on a ground out off Steve Schmoll that scored Patterson (1-for-2, 2B, HBP, R), who doubled, cutting the Senators' advantage to 7-3.

Phillips closed the scoring with an RBI single off Schmoll in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring Arencibia (walk).

That was as close as the Fisher Cats would come, as Martinez (4-1) worked a season-high 3.1 innings, allowing a run on five hits and two walks to notch the win. The righty struck out one.

Schmoll improved to seven for seven in save opportunities, allowing one run on one hit and one walk in 1.2 innings with four strikeouts.

MacDonald (0-3) absorbed the loss by yielding five runs on six hits and two walks in four innings. He fanned two.
