Pedroia Returns in Portland's 10-1 Loss to Binghamton

Portland, Maine - The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (13-8) struck early and rode a strong start from Anthony Kay en route to an 8-1 win over the Sea Dogs (7-15) in the series opener on Thursday night at Hadlock Field.

Dustin Pedroia joined the Sea Dogs on a Major League Rehab Assignment and finished the game 0-for-3 and played five innings.

Kay (W, 2-2) worked 5.1 scoreless innings on just two hits with three walks and four strikeouts.

Binghamton took an early lead on a three-run homer by Kevin Kaczmarski off of Denyi Reyes in the second. The Ponies scored again on a two-run single from Braxton Lee in the fourth.

Reyes (L, 0-4) toughed it out for six innings and allowed five runs on six hits while walking three and fanning four. Reyes threw a season-high 107 pitches.

The Sea Dogs ended a 26.2 inning scoreless drought in the sixth inning on a two-out RBI single by Jerry Downs to score Bobby Dalbec, who doubled and also walked twice in the game.

Adonis Uceta worked two innings of relief and allowed the lone Sea Dogs' run. Stephen Villines closed out the final two innings and held Portland scoreless.

Patrick Mazeika got in on the offensive action with a two-run double in the top of the ninth to extend the Binghamton lead to 8-1. Kaczmarski capped off a great night with a two-run double in the ninth to make it a 10-1 lead.

The Sea Dogs and Binghamton Rumble Ponies (Mets affiliate) play a doubleheader on Friday beginning at 4:00 PM from Hadlock Field. RHP Tanner Houck (3-1, 3.60) and LHP Daniel McGrath (0-0, 1.64) start for Portland. Binghamton counters with RHP Harol Gonzalez (2-0, 2.03) and RHP Ryder Ryan (0-0, 3.86).
