Pankewicz Becomes 58th Pro Hockey Player to Net 500 Goals

WINDSOR, CO- In 1991, Greg Pankewicz scored the first professional goal of his illustrious 16-year career. It is tonight, November 4, 2006 that he tallies his 499th, 500th, 501st and 502nd goals to go along with his 512 assists and his 1114 points.

Greg Pankewicz, the 36-year old Drayton Valley, Alberta native has become the 58th professional hockey player, and the 23rd player in minor pro history to reach the 500 goal bench mark. Since the time of Pankewicz's first goal with the Knoxville Cherokees, there have been five different presidential terms and three different United States leaders, George Bush Sr. (4), Bill Clinton (8), and George Bush Jr. (4). The NHL has had two work stoppages (1994 & 2004), the Quebec Nordiques became the Colorado Avalanche (1995) and the price of fuel has gone on a national average from $1.15 to $2.21.

He has played in five different leagues, the ECHL,CHL, IHL,AHL, and the NHL where he appeared in 21 games with the Calgary Flames and the Ottawa Senators. His stops at the AA level produced 261 goals, 274 assists, 532 points, and 1,430 penalty minutes in 364 games. He has averaged 1.46 points per game in his time at the AA platform. He played the majority of his career at the IHL/AHL averaging nearly a point per game, in 612 contests. Pankewicz totaled 241 goals and 476 points at the AAA level in nine seasons.

Overall he has averaged 1.01 points per game during his career that has spanned nearly two decades and 997 games. With his 500th goal, he becomes the only player in hockey history to score at least 500 goals, tally at least 500 assists for 1000 points and rack up over 3000 penalty minutes in his career. At the minor pro level Pankewicz ranks 23rd in goals, 123rd in assists, 47th in points, and 19th in PIM'S.
