Rage Outlasted in 9th Round of Shootout
November 4, 2006 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Rocky Mountain Rage News Release
Oklahoma City - The Rocky Mountain Rage and Oklahoma City Blazers battled until the ninth round of a shootout before Oklahoma City finally prevailed, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon at the Ford Center. Despite out-shooting the Blazers, 25-15 through 40 minutes, the Rage had to rely on Dorian Anneck's goal 6:45 into the third period to tie the contest at one and effectively send the game to the extra session.
The Rage out-shot the Blazers, 14-5, during the first period, but it was Oklahoma City's Mike Beausoleil that scored an unassisted tally to give his club a 1-0 lead heading to the second.
The teams were scoreless during the middle frame, setting the stage for Anneck's third goal of the season. Dan Vandermeer kept the puck in at the point against two Blazers before feeding Anneck, who beat Oklahoma City netminder Sebastien Centomo along the ice.
After a scoreless overtime period, the Blazers out-scored the Rage, 5-4, in the tie-breaker.
Bret DeCecco, Anders Strome, Matic Kralj, and Vandermeer all scored for the Rage in the shootout, with Vandermeer keeping his team alive by extending the contest to a ninth round. Goaltender Trevor Cunning shined in his Rage debut, stopping 24 of 25 Oklahoma City shots.
Rocky Mountain is now 1-2-2 with four points and in fourth place in the Central Hockey League's Northwest Division.
The Rage complete a stretch of six straight road games to begin their inaugural season tomorrow when they travel to face the Memphis RiverKings.
