Youngstown SteelHounds News Release
Amarillo, TX---The Youngstown SteelHounds lost their third straight game Saturday night to the Amarillo Gorillas 3-2 in Amarillo, Texas. Despite two of the Hounds top scorers out (Jeff Christian-suspension, Joey Sewell-leg injury), The SteelHounds put forth a great effort but came up a little bit short as Gorilla forward Trevor Socholotuk fired in the game winning goal for Amarillo.
The SteelHounds had their chances in the first period, with four powerplay opportunities early but could not convert. Amarillo took the lead on a powerplay chance of their own as at the 17:16 mark of the first frame, Gorilla right winger Chris Lipsett found Brent Hughes in the middle of the left slot for the one-timer and the 1-0 lead for Amarillo after the first period.
The Hounds tied the score at 1-1 in the second period of play as forward Shaun Landolt streaked up the right wing on a lead pass from Mark Johnson and snapped a slow slap shot underneath the skate of Gorilla goaltender Shawn Conschafter for the tie. Just under nine minutes later with both teams skating four-on-four, Amarillo forward Brett Draney fired a one-timer over the shoulder of Hounds goaltender David Currie for the 2-1 advantage.
Landolt scored his second goal of the game at the 13:51 mark of the third period, to tie the game at 2-2. Landolt intercepted a pass with the Gorillas on the powerplay, and shoved the puck in five hole for the shorthanded goal. Exactly :50 seconds later Gorilla forward Trevor Socholotuk would put Amarillo on top for good firing a shot from the point that slipped in through a screen on Currie for the 3-2 advantage.
Youngstown once again outshot its' opponent, topping the Gorillas in the category 36-28. Gorilla netminder, Shawn Conschafter stopped 34 of 36 shots earning his second victory of the season. Hounds goalie David Currie put forth another solid effort turning away 25 of 28 shots, but was saddled with his second loss of the season.
The SteelHounds will conclude the five-game road trip with two games on Friday, November 10, and Saturday the 11th in Prescott Valley, AZ to face to Sundogs.
