Colorado Eagles News Release

LOVELAND, CO - Greg Pankewicz scored his 499th, 500th, 501st and 502nd career goals Saturday night in a 5-2 Colorado Eagles victory over the Arizona Sundogs. Pankewicz became only the 58th player in professional hockey history to reach the 500 goals mark and tied an Eagles record with his four-goal game. All five of Colorado's goals were on special teams including three shorthanded goals, two by Pankewicz. The Eagles have won four consecutive games behind the goaltending of Marco Emond who saved 26 of 28 shots. Riley Nelson added the Eagles only other goal of the contest and Eagles defenseman Aaron Schneekloth tallied two assists. Colorado will take on the Tulsa Oilers this Tuesday in Tulsa. The Eagles earned an early power after Mike Looby went to the penalty box for high-sticking. Colorado could not convert on the power play and Arizona earned their first power play moments later on a hooking call to Les Borsheim. As Borsheim was coming out of the box, Michael Vernace scored for the Sundogs to give them a 1-0 lead. The Eagles battled back and had another power play opportunity, one that gave Greg Pankewicz his 499th professional goal when he beat Sundogs' goaltender Kris Mayotte five hole. He was assisted by Sean Robertson and Aaron Schneekloth tying the game at one before the first intermission.

The Eagles took a 2-1 lead only 2:10 into the second period on a shorthanded two-on-one rush. Greg Pankewicz fed Riley Nelson and he ripped a slapshot from in between the circles past Mayotte. Six minutes later, Eagles captain Greg Pankewicz scored his 500th professional goal on a rebound off a shot from Riley Nelson. The goal for Pankewicz sets him among an elite class of professional hockey players becoming only the 58th player in pro hockey history to score 500 goals. He wasn't finished. Just over one minute later, with the Eagles shorthanded, Pankewicz stripped a Sundogs' player and skated in on a breakaway and scored his third goal of the game. It marked Pankewicz's second hat trick of the season and fourth in an Eagles uniform. After two periods of play, the Eagles held a 4-1 lead.

Greg Pankewicz scored his fourth goal of the contest and 502nd of his career on another shorthanded breakaway goal at the 7:59 mark of the third period. The four-goal effort out of Pankewicz ties an Eagles record for most goals in a game with Riley Nelson. Less than one minute later, Torrie Wheat scored on a power play goal to cut the lead to 5-2, but that would be the final tally of the night. The Eagles finished the game with five special teams goals, three shorthanded and two power play goals and they held Arizona to 1-10 on the power play.

Marco Emond saved 26 of 28 shots for the Eagles in his fourth consecutive win and his counterpart Kris Mayotte saved 37 of 42 shots in the loss. The Eagles travel to Tulsa for a game on Tuesday night against the Oilers and Arizona travels back to Prescott Valley to play host against the Youngstown SteelHounds Friday night.
