Bucks Trump Jacks 4-3, Rookie Korchinski Scores Two Goals

LAREDO, Texas - The defending CHL President's Cup Champion Laredo Bucks got a pair of goals from rookie forward Chris Korchinski as they beat the Odessa Jackalopes 4-3 at the LEC on Saturday night in front of 5,314 fans. The Bucks won their second straight game and at 4-3-0 moved into first place in the Southeast Division with eight points. Laredo is on the road in Rio Grande Valley next Friday. The Bucks return home on Saturday against the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs. The Bucks took the early lead with a power play that has been red hot. Rookie forward Bobby Chaumont found Korchinski for a spin around shot in the slot just 2:19 into the game and a 1-0 Laredo lead. It was the second of the season for Korchinski. The Jackalopes tied it on a power play chance of their own as defenseman Scott Hillman blasted home a shot from the right point at 4:14. Late in the period forward Mike Ramsay tucked home a backdoor feed on another power play opportunity to give the Jackalopes a 2-1 lead with just 6.6 seconds left in the frame.

The Bucks tied the game in the second as forward Brian Teixeira found forward Leo Thomas cutting backdoor for a tap in goal at 5:31. It was the first of the season for Thomas. Late in the period the Bucks capitalized on another power play chance. Korchinski walked off the left wall to the top of the crease and just trickled his backhander over the goal line for his second of the night at 19:52 to make it 3-2 Bucks.

The Jackalopes tied the game early in third period shorthanded. Laredo gave the puck away at their own line and Ramsay streaked in and scored on a top shelf wrist shot just 40 seconds into the frame. Laredo retook the lead when Teixeira snapped home a shot from just inside the left circle while using the Odessa defenseman as a screen at 9:21 to make it 4-3. The Bucks then held on for the win. FINAL SCORE Laredo 4, Odessa 3.

Eric Marvin stopped 21 of 24 shots and got the win to improve to 3-1-0. Derek Dolson allowed four goals on 32 shots and fell to 0-2-0. Laredo and Odessa were each 2-8 on the power play. The Bucks out shot the Jackalopes 32-24.
