Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, member of the American Hockey League, announced that the Boston Bruins have assigned forwards Nate Thompson, Petr Kalus and Jeff Hoggan to the P-Bruins, extending their roster to 26 players, including 14 forwards, nine defensemen and three goaltenders.
Thompson, 22, enjoyed four separate one-game call-ups to the National Hockey League this season where he averaged nearly five minutes of ice time per contest while going scoreless. Most recently, he played in Boston's regular season finale Saturday against the Ottawa Senators. In Providence this year, the assistant captain has 22 points (8g, 14a) through 65 games after recording 18 points (8g, 10a) in 74 contests a season ago. The center from Anchorage, Alaska, joined the P-Bruins late in 2004-05, suiting up for 11 playoff games, after finishing four years with the Western Hockey League's Seattle Thunderbirds. Thompson was drafted in the sixth round, 183rd overall, by Boston in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
Kalus, 19, played nine games for Boston to conclude the big club's regular season after his March 23 promotion. Spanning the call-up, the rookie winger averaged just over 11 minutes of ice time while scoring his first five NHL points on four goals and an assist. His first career point, a goal, came March 27 at Ottawa. Kalus' first three goals were scored on his first three shots. The native of Ostrava, Czech Republic, returns to Providence where he has 30 points (13g, 17a) in 45 contest, as well as a plus-seven rating. Prior to joining the P-Bruins, Kalus also spent time in the WHL, playing a year with the Regina Pats. In four junior seasons overall, he produced 105 points (64g, 41a) in 151 contests. Boston selected Kalus in the second round, 39th overall, of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
Hoggan, 29, is in his sixth professional season, which has been split between Boston, where he had two assists in 46 games, and Providence, owner of 11 points (4g, 7a) in 19 contests, along with a plus-nine rating. Last season, Hoggan played 52 games with the NHL's St. Louis Blues, amassing eight points (2g, 6a). The undrafted left wing has also seen AHL time in his career with the Houston Aeros, where he won a Calder Cup championship in 2002-03, and the Worcester IceCats.
Providence concludes the regular season this weekend with a pair of road games Friday, April 13 at the DCU Center against the Worcester Sharks and the following night versus the Lowell Devils at the Tsongas Arena. The P-Bruins' final home game of the regular season is Sunday, April 15 against the Manchester Monarchs, a free team poster giveaway day to the first 4,000 fans in attendance.
