Montreal Assigns Andrei Kostitsyn And Maxim Lapierre To Hamilton

MONTREAL, QC - Montreal Canadiens General Manager Bob Gainey announced today that the club has assigned forwards Andrei Kostitsyn and Maxim Lapierre to the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League. Kostitsyn and Lapierre are scheduled to arrive in Hamilton later tonight and report to the team tomorrow.

Kostitsyn, 22, appeared in 22 games with the Canadiens this season, posting a goal and 10 assists with a plus-3 rating and six penalty minutes. In 34-career NHL games, all with Montreal, the native of Novopolotsk, Belarus has collected 14 points (3-11-14) and eight penalty minutes.

The 6-foot, 202-pound winger has also played 50 games with the Bulldogs this season, posting career highs in goals (21), assists (31), and points (52), with 50 penalty minutes and is seventh overall in the AHL with a plus-24 rating. Prior to his recall, Kostitsyn was on an 11-game point streak (Jan. 20th - Feb. 19th) with nine goals, 11 assists and 20 points in that span.

Lapierre, 22, appeared in 46 games with Montreal this season, registering 12 points (6-6-12), including two game-winning goals, with 24 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-2, 197-pound centreman posted his first-career NHL point, an assist, in his NHL debut on December 12th, 2006 against the Boston Bruins and tallied his first-career NHL goal on December 14th, 2006 versus the Tampa Bay Lightning.

In 33 games with Hamilton in the AHL this season, Lapierre notched 21 points (9-12-21), 57 penalty minutes and a plus-7 rating. The native of St-Leonard, Quebec, has suited up in 106-career AHL games, all with Hamilton, collecting 22 goals and 35 assists with 271 penalty minutes.

Goaltender Jaroslav Halak, who was also on the Hamilton Bulldogs' Clear Day Roster, will join Slovakia for the upcoming International Ice Hockey Federation's World Championships in Moscow, Russia. The tournament will run from April 27th to May 13th.

In operation since 1936, the American Hockey League is the top development league for all 30 National Hockey League teams. Over 80 percent of NHL players are AHL graduates, and more than 350 AHL players were recalled to the NHL during the 2005-2006 season alone.
