Milwaukee Admirals News Release

Milwaukee, WI-While the Milwaukee Admirals have all but wrapped up third place in their division, you wouldn't have been able to tell from watching their performance on Tuesday night. Milwaukee fought hard in the "meaningless" game and secured a 3-1 win against their division rival the Houston Aeros.

"We're just trying to get our "A-game," explained Coach Claude Noel after the game. "We're just trying to tighten up the bolts on the ship and just trying to keep it moving in the right direction, build confidence in the group, and just feel good about ourselves going into the playoffs."

The Admirals got a slew of "A-games," including a great performance from Karl Goehring.

"I thought Goehring was real strong tonight," said Noel of his back-up netminder. "I thought he was very focused. He was real good, and I thought our team fed off that."

In his first start since his win against Peoria on March 23rd, Goehring shutout the Aeros in the first two periods, allowing just a single goal on thirty shots for the entire game.

"There were a lot of good things in the game that I liked," Noel said of the rest of his team.

One of those "good things" was all-star defenseman Ville Koistinen who opened up the scoring with a rocket of a shot from the top of the face off circle 14:25 into the opening period.

Chris Durno added another less than a minute later when his shot hit the bottom of the crossbar and bounced in.

Registering an assist on the goal was Harvard alum Ryan Maki playing in his first AHL game after coming to the Ads at the end of this NCAA season. His new coach had some good things to say about his first game in the pros.

"I thought Maki was pretty good for a young guy that came out of college real nervous. As a young guy, it's hard to play in April."

Ex-Admiral Curtis Murphy was given credit for Houston's only goal of the night. He deflected Mattias Weinhandl's shot past Goehring at 5:39 into the last period.

Six minutes later, center Cal O'Reilly got the two-goal lead back with a deflection goal of his own when he was able re-direct Ramzi Abid's deep shot into the back of the net with the blade of his skate.

Milwaukee has three regular season games left to prepare for the playoffs, before they will meet either Omaha or Chicago in the playoffs. Noel has made it clear that right now he's not concerned with which division foe his team will meet in the first round.

"We're just trying to play our own game. If you want to get out of the division you're going to have to beat Chicago, Omaha, Iowa, or somebody. It doesn't really matter. We're just trying to control our own situation."
