Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, member of the American Hockey League, were defeated by the Albany River Rats 5-2 Saturday night at the Dunkin' Donuts Center, ending the season-series between the two teams with the River Rats winning three of the four match-ups. The P-Bruins got goals from forwards T.J. Trevelyan and Nate DiCasmirro.

Albany opened the scoring with four consecutive goals in the first 9:27 of play, a pair from Shane Willis in the first 2:51, leading to the early exit of Providence goaltender Jordan Sigalet. Philippe Sauve relieved Sigalet but had his early struggles as well, allowing two goals shortly after his entrance just 1:16 apart to Scott Kelman and Kyle Cumiskey. Two of the four goals came off P-Bruins turnovers in their defensive end. Providence answered back with one goal late in the first as Trevelyan was set up in the slot by fellow rookie Martins Karsums for his fifth goal in only eight AHL games. The other helper went to defenseman Mark Stuart. Providence trailed 4-1 after one period.

The second and third periods featured just one goal apiece. The Rats lit the lamp late in the second, with just 1.1 seconds remaining in the frame, as Matt Murley took advantage of a power-play for one of three man-advantage goals on the night.

The third frame saw another power-play goal as DiCasmirro redirected a Matt Lashoff shot from the high-slot past Albany netminder Justin Peters 13:14 into the final period. DiCasmirro's goal was his second and the other assist went to Jeremy Reich. The game finished at a 5-2 Rats win.

In net, Peters earned his third win against Providence while Sauve took the loss, stopping 15 shots in just over 57 minutes of work. Sigalet made two saves on the four shots he faced, upping his season total to 148 and raising the money donated by Serono to the Rhode Island Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society to $2,960.

Providence scored once on the power-play in six chances and Albany netted two man-advantage goals in four opportunities. Shots went in favor of the P-Bruins, 26-22.

The P-Bruins are now tied for third place with the Lowell Devils in the Atlantic Division with 31 points, three points out of first behind the Portland Pirates and one point from second behind the Manchester Monarchs.

Providence hits the road Sunday, taking on the Devils at the Tsongas Arena at 4:05 p.m. The contest begins a stretch of eight straight road games, taking the P-Bruins through the holiday season and New Year. Providence returns home to The Dunk on Friday, January 5, hosting the Worcester Sharks.
