Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
SYRACUSE, NY - Corey Locke had a goal and three assists, lifting the Hamilton Bulldogs to a 4-1 win over the Syracuse Crunch on Saturday night at Onondaga County War Memorial at Oncenter. With the win, Hamilton's record improves to 17-10-0-1.
The Crunch opened the scoring with the lone goal of the first period when Geoff Platt recorded his team-leading 13th goal of the season. Bulldogs goaltender Jaroslav Halak stopped a shot by Joakim Lindstrom before Platt picked up the rebound and found the back of the net.
Matt D'Agostini tied the game for Hamilton at 16:35 of the middle stanza. The goal, assisted by Dan Jancevski and Corey Locke, came on the power play.
Locke then scored the eventual game-winning goal for the Bulldogs at 18:34 of the second frame. Locke took a pass from Jonathan Ferland, spun and fired a shot past Crunch netminder Tomas Popperle to make the score 2-1.
In the third period, Hamilton added two insurance markers to seal the victory. Jean-Philippe Cote scored his first goal of the season at the 5:14 mark. Mathieu Biron then posted his second goal in as many games with the 'Dogs, giving Hamilton a 4-1 lead at 11:15 of the final frame. Locke, adding his third assist and fourth point of the night, and Andrei Kostitsyn picked up helpers on the goal.
Kostitsyn extended his scoring streak to four games (Dec. 9-16) with 11 points (3-8-11) in that span. Biron now has three points (1-2-3) in his first two games as a Bulldog since being traded to the Montreal Canadiens from the San Jose Sharks on December 14th.
Halak, who was named the first star of the game, made 28 saves on 29 shots and picked up his ninth win of the season for the Bulldogs. Popperle stopped 30 of the 34 shots he faced while suffering the loss for the Crunch.
The Bulldogs return to action at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 20th when they travel to Manitoba to take on the Moose at MTS Centre.
