Bridgeport Islanders News Release
The New York Islanders have activated recalled defenseman Chris Campoli from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL and reassigned right wing Blake Comeau, who was with the team on an emergency basis, to Bridgeport. In 15 games with Bridgeport this season, Campoli has recorded three goals and three assists for six points. Campoli is in his second NHL season after appearing in 80 games in 2005-06 and becoming the sixth Islanders rookie defenseman to record 30-or-more points in their first NHL season. He totaled nine goals and 25 assists for 34 points and finished the year tied for sixth on the team in scoring and first among Islander rookies.
Campoli, 22, was drafted in the seventh round, 227th overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. He spent his first season of professional hockey in the AHL in 2004-05 with Bridgeport and finished second on the team in points with 49. He led all rookie AHL defensemen in goals with 15 and in points. Campoli was also selected to the AHL's All-Rookie Team.
Comeau played in three games for the Islanders. He made his NHL debut last week on Dec. 7 versus Montreal. He was selected by the Islanders in the second round, 47th overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft and was signed a three-year entry level contract with the Islanders on March 22, 2006.
The Islanders activated captain Alexei Yashin from the Injured Reserve. After missing the last eight games with a sprained knee, Yashin will return to the lineup tonight against the Atlanta Thrashers.
Yashin, in his fifth season with the Islanders, was the team's leading scorer before his injury with ten goals and 18 assists for 28 points in 22 games. He was also off to his best start as an Islander.
