
P-Bruins Fall Short to Monarchs 3-2

Manchester, NH -- The Providence Bruins fell to the Manchester Monarchs 3-2 Saturday night. Nick Johnson and Seth Griffith scored for the P-Bruins, while Malcolm Subban recorded 33 saves. The P-Bruins are back at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Sunday at 3:05pm against the Springfield Falcons.
The Monarchs got on the board first at the 10:39 mark of the opening period. Brandon Kozun opened the scoring on a breakaway, from a pass by Jordan Weal. For Kozun it was his sixth goal of the season, while Andrew Bodnarchuk picked up the second assist. Scott Sabourin made it 2-0 at the 17:28 mark after wristing the puck into the net off the faceoff. It was Sabourin's fourth goal of the season, while Sean Backman and Andy Andreoff had the assists. Manchester out shot the P-Bruins 16-8 in the opening period and went into the first intermission leading 2-0.
The P-Bruins battled back in the second period creating chances before breaking through at the 16"07 mark. Johnson scored on a breakaway, his ninth goal of the season, off the feed from Tommy Cross with Joe Morrow grabbing the second assist. Manchester led 2-1 going into the second intermission.
The P-Bruins got out to a flying to start in the third period. Griffith tied the game at the 2:52 mark after a nice give-and-go play with Jared Knight. Mike Moore had the second assist as Griffith tallied his fifth goal of the season. The Monarchs broke the tie at the 12:04 mark as Sabourin scored his second goal of the game and fifth goal of the season with a one-timer in the slot. Backman got the lone assist as Manchester went onto the 3-2 victory.
Subban stopped 33 of 36 shots for the P-Bruins, while Jean-Francois Berube made 24 saves for the Monarchs. Providence went 0-for-2 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.
