
Abbotsford Hands Iowa a 4-0 Shutout

Des Moines, IA - The Iowa Wild (6-10-0-0, 12 points) were defeated by the Abbotsford Heat (16-5-0-1, 33 points) 4-0 in front of 5,326 fans at the Wells Fargo Arena on Saturday night. Abbotsford goalie Joni Ortio (9-0-0) recorded his first AHL shutout by stopping all 25 Iowa shots. Paul Byron had a goal and two assists, and both Markus Grandlund and Braden Lamb each picked up a goal and an assist to lead the Heat offense. Corban Knight also scored, as Abbotsford improved to 10-4-0-0 on the road this season. Iowa goalie Johan Gustafsson (3-3-0) stopped 26 shots in the loss, the team's fifth straight overall and seventh straight at home. The same two teams meet again at Wells Fargo Arena on Sunday at 5:05 p.m.
Abbotsford opened the scoring at 4:47 of the first period, as Heat center Corban Knight tipped a point shot by defenseman Braden Lamb. Forward Ben Hanowski added an assist on the play, marking Knight's seventh goal of the year. Abbotsford led Iowa after the first 20 minutes of play, 1-0.
Abbotsford added to its lead at 3:31 of the second period with defenseman Braden Lamb picking up his first goal of the season. Heat center Paul Byron fed a cross-ice pass to Lamb, who fired a wrist shot between the pads of Iowa goalie Gustafsson, giving Abbotsford a 2-0 lead. Heat forward Brett Olson also picked up an assist on the play.
Abbotsford expanded its lead to 3-0 at 6:11 of the third period with a goal by Bryon. The Heat center buried a loose puck near the Iowa crease, after a shot by forward Markus Grandlund. Heat forward Ben Street also picked up an assist on Bryon's fifth goal of the season. Abbotsford capped off the scoring at 16:15 with a goal by forward Markus Granlund. Byron picked up his second assist of the night for the 4-0 final.
The Wild concludes its homestand with Abbotsford on Nov. 24 at 5:05 p.m. Sunday night. The team will embark on a six-game road trip starting on Wednesday, Nov. 27 at 7:00 p.m. After games at San Antonio, Texas and Abbotsford, the team returns home on Sunday, Dec. 15 to host Rockford at 4:50 p.m. For Sunday's game, the team will hold its first Teddy Bear Toss, where fans are encouraged to throw a stuffed animal on the ice for charity. Fans will be permitted to through Teddy Bears on the ice after the Wild score its first goal of the night.
