Pirates, Admirals Clash for Second Straight Day
November 23, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Portland Pirates News Release
Norfolk, VA - The Portland Pirates will look to extend their point streak to 7 games and get back to their winning ways as they face the Norfolk Admirals for the second straight night in Norfolk. Puck drop is set for 7:15 as the Pirates face Norfolk for the second of 4 meetings this season.
Norfolk were the victors last night, with Rickard Rakell capping a 3 goal Admirals comeback to defeat the Pirates 3-2. Jordan Martinook and Ethan Werek provided the scoring for the Pirates, both in the second period, but three straight Admirals goals from John Kurtz, Alex Grant, and Rakell led the Admirals comeback. Mark Visentin made 30 saves in the defeat while Admirals goaltender John Gibson made 24 saves. The game was the first time that the Admirals had outshot an opponent this season, and the first Pirates overtime road loss in 13 months.
Key Bank Key to the Game
The Thin Blue Line: The Admirals didn't score their first goal of yesterday's game until 20 seconds remained in the second period thanks in large part to the Pirates defense and the goaltending of Mark Visentin. A physical, shutdown Pirates defense will take the pressure off of the Pirates goaltenders and put the pressure back on Norfolk to stop Portland's skill players.
Tonight's game can be heard on the Pirates flagship stations WPEI 95.5/95.9 FM as well as WEZR AM 1240 in the Lewiston/Auburn area and WTME AM 780/1450 in Oxford County. The game can also be heard online at portlandpirates.com by clicking "Listen Live" and can be seen live on AHL Live at ahllive.com. The pregame show starts at 6:55 with Jeff Mannix.
