Providence Bruins News Release

Worcester, MA - The Providence Bruins defeated the Worcester Sharks 4 to 2 on Friday evening at the DCU Center. The P-Bruins received goals from Jamie Arniel, Kirk MacDonald and Trent Whitfield who scored twice.

The Bruins went on the game's first power play 3:18 into the first period and despite failing to score on the power play, Providence got on the scoreboard shortly afterward at the 6:07 mark of the period. Whitfield batted in a feed from MacDonald to tally his 15th goal of the season. MacDonald's assist was his twentieth of the season. Jordan Smotherman was awarded the second assist, his ninth of the season. At the 11:34 mark of the first period, Patrick Davis deflected the puck passed Anton Khudobin to tie the game at one. Matt Irwin and T.J. Trevelyan tallied the assists on the goal. Less than 35 seconds later Arniel and Jordan Caron broke through the Worcester defensemen to create a two-on-one rush. Arniel's wrist shot beat Harri Sateri glove side to make it 2 to 1 Providence. Alain Goulet got the second assist on Arniel's twentieth goal of the season, which came just over twelve minutes into the first period. Worcester tied the game at the 16:47. Benn Ferriero got his 16th goal of the year with Nick Patrecki and Sateri receiving the assists. The score remained tied 2 to 2 going into the first intermission.

Providence retook the lead in the second period. On a three-on-two odd man rush, Smotherman's one-timer slap-shot created a big rebound to set up Whitfield for a tip-in goal. MacDonald and Smotherman received their second assists of the game on Whitfield's second goal of the night and sixteenth of the season. As the second period winded down, Providence had to kill their first penalty of the game when Kevan Miller was called for roughing with 1:36 left in the second period. After 40 minutes of play, the score remained 3 to 2 Bruins.

In the third period, with 54 seconds left in regulation, MacDonald took control of the puck and shot it from just passed the Worcester blue line to tally the empty netter and secure the 4 to 2 victory for Providence. MacDonald's unassisted empty-net goal marked his third point of the night.

Khudobin earned the win, stopping 32 attempts, while Sateri suffered the loss, making 23 saves before he was pulled for the extra attacker.

The P-Bruins travel to Binghamton on Saturday to face the Senators before returning to The Dunk on Sunday in a 4:05 p.m. meeting with the Connecticut Whale for Amica Lip Balm Night.
