Sound Tigers Roll Against the Pirates

Portland, ME ‚¬" Rhett Rakhshani registered his first career hat trick and Brian Day scored in his professional debut to help the Bridgeport Sound Tigers upend the first-place Portland Pirates 5-1 in an American Hockey League game played tonight in front of 4,376 at the Cumberland County Civic Center.

Rob Hisey also scored and Jeremy Colliton recorded three assists as the Sound Tigers record improved to 24-36-4-7. Bridgeport also received a point in their sixth straight game, going 3-0-1-2 in the process.

T.J. Brennan scored the lone Pirates goal as their record fell to 43-19-6-2 with the loss.

Brennan got the Pirates on the board first with a power-play goal nine minutes into the game. The Sound Tigers stormed back with tallies from Rakhshani and Hisey to give the visitors a 2-1 lead and 11-2 shot advantage heading into the first intermission. After a scoreless second period in which Bridgeport could only manage two shots, Rakhshani struck again halfway through the third to up the lead to two with one second remaining on a power play. Rakhshani completed his hat trick at 15:24 with his second power-play goal of the game, and Day capped the scoring with Bridgeport ‚¬â„¢s fourth straight power-play goal at 19:02 in his first professional game following the end of his season at Colgate University.

The Sound Tigers out-shot the Pirates 24-18 as Mikko Koskinen improved his record to 8-19-1 and ended a personal four-game losing streak. Jeff Jakaitis received the loss in net for Portland as his overall record dropped to 3-3-0.

The Allied Home Mortgage Three Stars of the game were all from Bridgeport: 1. Rakhshani, 2. Hisey and 3. Colliton.
