Manchester Monarchs News Release
MANCHESTER, NH - The Manchester Monarchs, the primary affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, have signed center Jordan Weal to an amateur tryout agreement and right wing Chaz Johnson to a professional tryout agreement, Monarchs Director of Hockey Operations Hubie McDonough announced today.
Weal, 18, recently wrapped up his fourth season playing for the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League (WHL). While leading the Pats in goals (43), assists (53) and points (96), he also finished the season ranked fifth overall in the WHL in points. Weal's 43 goals placed him in a tie for eighth place in the league.
The 5-foot-8, 158-pound native of North Vancouver, British Columbia was recently named to the WHL's Subway Super Series Team and participated in a competition pitting his team against the best players of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and Team Russia.
Weal has recorded 269 points (94-175269) and 150 penalty minutes through 212 games with the Pats over the last four seasons. He also played in four playoff games with the Pats. Weal served as the assistant captain of the Pats for the 2010-11 season.
Originally selected by the Kings in the third-round (70th overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Weal will wear No. 19 for the Monarchs.
Johnson, 27, is in his first season with the Ontario Reign of the ECHL and recorded 19 goals and 12 assists for 31 points (19-1231) in 55 games. In his 361 professional games played with the Milwaukee Admirals (AHL), Rochester Americans (AHL), Hershey Bears (AHL), Binghamton Senators (AHL), Rockford IceHogs (UHL), Elmira Jackals (AHL) and the Reign, Johnson has scored 100 goals and 97 assists for 197 points (100-97197). He also accumulated 977 penalty minutes in his career. Johnson appeared in 46 post-season contests, scoring 19 goals and 20 assists for 39 points (19-2039).
Originally signed as an undrafted free agent out of juniors, Johnson will wear No. 8 for the Monarchs.
The Monarchs return to action on Friday, March 25 with a 7:30 p.m. face-off against the Norfolk Admirals at the Scope Arena. Catch all of the play-by-play action of Monarchs hockey with Ken Cail on the Monarchs Radio Network WGAM 900/1250 AM and at www.manchestermonarchs.com.
