Norfolk Admirals News Release

NORFOLK, Va. - The Norfolk Admirals (36-20-8-6) sent 35 shots on goaltender Jeff Zatkoff but were unable to score as they were shut out by the Manchester Monarchs (42-23-3-6), 4-0, on Friday night at Norfolk Scope Arena. The loss coupled by a shootout loss by the Charlotte Checkers tonight moves Norfolk back to fourth place in the East Division. The Admirals and Monarchs will square off again tomorrow night at Scope at 7:15 p.m.

Norfolk netminder Dustin Tokarski stopped 15 of 18 shots in the setback. Monarchs forward Dwight King registered a hat trick while David Meckler scored Manchester's other goal.

After a scoreless first period, the Monarchs took the lead with only 2:15 left in the second stanza. King carried the puck into the Norfolk zone along the left wing and let a shot go from the bottom of the faceoff circle. The shot found its way through Tokarski's legs for a power play goal and a 1-0 Manchester lead.

Norfolk's deficit increased to 2-0 midway through the third period. King sent a shot toward the net from the bottom of the right circle that ricocheted off the skate and shoulder of an Admirals defender before sneaking past Tokarski at 10:30.

Meckler put Manchester ahead 3-0 just over three minutes later when his shot from the right circle found its mark at 13:46.

King completed the hat trick with an empty net goal with 59 seconds remaining.

Dustin Tokarski (18 shots, 15 saves) fell to 20-16-4 with the loss. Jeff Zatkoff (35 shots, 35 saves) improved to 19-14-5 with the win.

Norfolk was 0-4 on the power play. Manchester was 1-4.
