Albany, NY - The Providence Bruins defeat the Albany River Rats 4-3 in overtime Saturday at the Pepsi Arena. The P-Bruins got two goals from Kris Versteeg and goals from Ben Walter and Bobby Allen.
In the opening period, the River Rats were awarded a 5 on 3 power play opportunity and took advantage of it. At the 5:05 mark, Ryan Bayda scored with Kyle Cumiskey and Keith Aucoin getting the assists. The P-Bruins tied the game at one at the 13:37 mark. Versteeg carried the puck out of his own zone and worked it down the left wing into the River Rats zone. From the left circle he sent the puck under the crossbar and past Albany goaltender Justin Peters. The River Rats bounced back on their fourth power play of the period. At the 15:37 mark Cumiskey scored with Matt Murley and Aucoin getting the assists. Providence went into the first intermission trailing 2-1.
In the second period, at the 1:14 mark, the P-Bruins tied the game at two. Zinger cleared the puck out of his zone, sending it up ahead to Walter. Only 36 seconds later Aucoin had a breakaway and P-Bruins netminder Jordan Sigalet stopped the shot, but as he made the save his body drifted into the net and Aucoin was awarded with the goal. Providence tied the game at three with their first power play goal of the evening at the 3:49 mark. Martins Karsums sent a pass in between the circle to Curry. He took a shot and it was redirected in front of the net by Versteeg and past Peters. The P-Bruins headed into the second intermission tied at three with the River Rats.
At the end of the third period, Bayda got his stick in the face of P-Bruins defenseman Jason Platt and the P-Bruins were awarded a major power play opportunity. After being unable to score in regulation, only 21 seconds into overtime Allen got the game winner from the high slot with David Krejci and Ryan Glenn picking up the assists as Providence went on to a 4-3 victory, for their fourth straight win.
