'Dogs lose in shootout

HAMILTON, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs picked up a single-point in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Houston Aeros on Friday night at Copps Coliseum. The shootout loss drops Hamilton's overall record to 4-6-0-1.

The Bulldogs opened the scoring at 13:40 of the first period when Andrei Kostitsyn snapped a wrist shot from the face-off circle to score his first goal of the season. Matt D'Agostini and Ryan O'Byrne had the assists on the goal.

Aeros forward Ben Thompson notched his second goal of the season at 18:15 of the first period to tie the game at 1-1. Shawn Belle and Matt Foy picked up assists on the goal.

Hamilton and Houston traded second period goals, making the score 2-2 at the end of the middle-stanza. Joel Ward scored at 12:39 of the second frame to give the Aeros a 2-1 lead, but Hamilton came back with a power-play goal by Mathieu Roy at the 15:50 mark to even the score 2-2. Corey Locke and Andre Kostitsyn assisted on Roy's second goal of the season.

After a scoreless third period and overtime, the game went to a shootout.

Roman Voloshenko, Matt Foy and Ben Thomson all scored in the shootout for Houston while Hamilton was unable to score on three attempts.

The Bulldogs were 1-for-10 on the powerplay while the Aeros were 0-4 with the man-advantage.

The Bulldogs next game is on Friday, November 10th at 7:30 p.m. when they take on the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights at Copps Coliseum.
