Hershey Bears News Release

The BEARS behind goaltender Frederic Cassivi and another five-goal outburst are now officially off to the best start in the team's 69-year history, downing the Syracuse Crunch 5-0 at GIANT Center. At 8-0-0-1, it's the most wins and points the BEARS have ever had after eight games.

HERSHEY scored the first goal of the game for the third consecutive contest when Eric Fehr found the back of the net early. Fehr picked up his fifth goal of the season at 2:28 of the first when he and Alexandre Giroux slipped behind the defense and beat Crunch goaltender Ty Conklin. The BEARS outshot Syracuse 13-11 in the first, and took a 1-0 lead to the dressing room after a period.

With a second period much like the first, HERSHEY found a way to pick up a goal and leave Syracuse off the scoreboard. Chad Wiseman followed a Matt Hendricks shot and scored his third goal of the season. The goal at 6:07 of the second gave HERSHEY a 2-0 lead, a two-goal advantage they would carry into the third period.

A three-goal third would seal the deal for the BEARS, with Fehr picking up his second of the game just 57 seconds into the period. Matt Hendricks scored an unassisted goal at 3:07 when goaltender Conklin served up a pass through the middle onto his stick. Giroux rounded out the scoring at 10:11, blazing past the defense to earn his fifth of the season. Cassivi would do the rest, recording 33 saves for his first shutout of the season.
