P-Bruins Defeat Rampage 6-2

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the San Antonio Rampage 6-2 Saturday evening in front of 7,615 fans at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got their goals from Jeff Hoggan, Pascal Pelletier, Aaron Slattengren, Byron Bitz, Jeff LoVecchio and Sean Curry. The 46-15-3-2 Atlantic Division leading P-Bruins are back in action Sunday for a Family Game versus the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at the Dunkin' Donuts Center at 7:05 p.m. Providence remains nine points ahead of the second place Portland Pirates.

In the opening period, the P-Bruins took a 1-0 advantage at the 17:29 mark of the opening period. Matt Hendricks took a shot from the left boards and Hoggan was parked in front of the crease to tip it into the net. For Hoggan, it was his 27th goal of the season. Jonathan Sigalet recorded the second assist. Providence opened up a 2-0 lead at the 18:22 mark, while on the power play. Bitz held the puck halfway along the left boards and tossed it to Martins Karsums in the corner. He sent the puck through the crease to Pelletier waiting backdoor, scoring his 31st goal of the season. Providence took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.

In the second period, the P-Bruins extended their lead to 3-0. At the 11:49 mark Nate Thompson sent the puck from the neutral zone to Hoggan halfway along the left boards. Slattengren was cutting down the right wing and Hoggan sent him the puck. Slattengren netted his ninth goal of the season. Later in the period, at the 12:12 the P-Bruins took a 4-0 lead. LoVecchio sent the puck into the corner as it went up the boards to Hendricks. He sent it back into the corner for Bitz who skated the puck behind the net and scored his eighth goal of the season on a wrap around. San Antonio scored late in the second period to get on the board. At the 13:36 mark, David Spina tallied his 13th goal of the season, with Travis Roche and Peter Vandermeer picking up the assists.

San Antonio cut the P-Bruins lead to 4-2 at the 10:14 mark of the third period. Matt Murley scored his 17th goal of the season, with Bill Thomas and Brendan Bell getting the assists. Providence added two more goals in the third to finish off the scoring. At the 13:12 mark, Sigalet took a shot from the left point and the puck was deflected in front of the net by Thompson. The rebound went to LoVecchio, who scored his first professional goal. The final P-Bruins goal came at the 15:01 mark, while on the man advantage. Karsums worked the puck out of the corner to Curry in front of the net and he tallied his 13th goal of the season. Pelletier had the second assist as the P-Bruins went on to the 6-2 victory.

Jordan Sigalet stopped 22 of 24 shots for the P-Bruins, while Al Montoya made 26 saves for the Rampage. The P-Bruins were 2-for-6 on the power play and 5-for-5 on the penalty kill.
