Bridgeport Islanders News Release
Colton Fretter netted two more goals in tonight's 3-2 win over the Philadelphia Phantoms at Arena at Harbor Yard giving him three goals in the past two games. Sound Tigers' starting goalie Mike Morrison made a number of remarkable saves, helping end the Sound Tigers' four-game losing streak. Jamie Fraser scored his sixth and Sean Bentivoglio added an empty netter in the victory.
Fretter's second goal in as many nights got the Sound Tigers on the board first at the 12:05 mark of the first. Kyle Okposo fired the puck high over the goal that ended up behind the net. Trevor Smith tapped a centering feed from the side of the goal to Fretter for his fifth of the season.
Philadelphia evened the score at 1-1 a little more than a minute and a half later on Jared Ross' 18th goal of the season. Ross knocked home a rebound after Morrison made the initial save. Morrison kicked the puck to the side of the net where Ross pounced on the puck for the power-play goal.
Jamie Fraser put the Sound Tigers up 2-1 on a slap-shot from the point late in the opening frame. Jeremy Colliton picked up the puck along the left half-boards and fed Fraser at the left point. Fraser's booming shot redirected through Phantoms' goalie Scott Monroe and slid over the line for his sixth tally of the season. Colliton and Matt Keith assisted on the go-ahead goal.
The Sound Tigers made it 3-1 on Fretter's power-play goal 2:34 into the second period. Dustin Kohn fed a pass across to Scott Ford at the point, where he fired a slap-shot on net. Fretter, standing at the stop of the crease, redirected Ford's shot for his second of the game. Kohn's assist was his fifth of the season, while Ford picked up his second.
Philadelphia pulled within one, 3-2, just over five minutes into the middle frame. Boyd Kane beat Morrison for his 15th goal of the season with Pete Zingoni and Ross collecting the assists.
After 19 scoreless minutes to start the third, Bentivoglio tapped in an empty netter to seal the win for the Sound Tigers. Colliton took the puck up the right wing boards before centering the puck through a sprawling Phantoms defenseman to the former Niagara University forward for the game's final goal.
Morrison stopped 26 shots in recording his 20th win of the season. Phantoms' starter, Munroe, allowed three goals on 20 shots before he was replaced by Martin Houle after Fretter's second goal.
On Wednesday the Sound Tigers will travel to Worcester, MA for two straight games against the Sharks. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. for both games on Wednesday and Friday.
