
Falcons Set To Host Sharks On Saturday Night

The Springfield Falcons and Worcester Sharks meet for the seventh time this season when they get together on Saturday night at the MassMutual Center. The Falcons are 1-2-1-2 in the previous six match-ups with the Sharks. The last two games of the season series were played at the DCU Center in Worcester with the Sharks beating the Falcons by a score of 4-1 in the most recent meeting back on February 27. Springfield scored a season-high seven goals against Worcester back on February 24 in a 7-4 Falcons' victory with Grant Potulny tying a team record with four goals in that contest.
Rookie Liam Reddox leads the Falcons in scoring against the Sharks this season with two goals and three assists for five points in six games. Grant Potulny's four goals lead Springfield in markers against Worcester this campaign.
Graham Mink leads the Sharks in scoring against the Falcons with three goals and five assists for eight points in six games played. Lukas Kaspar is second on Worcester in scoring against Springfield with two goals and five assists for seven points in six games.
The Falcons enter Saturday's action having won two of their last three games and they remain in fourth place in the Atlantic Division with a record of 29-26-5-5 on the season. Springfield is currently on a three-game winning streak at home and they have an overall record of 19-10-3-1 at "The Nest" this season. The Falcons will be looking to rebound from a 3-1 loss suffered against the Manchester Monarchs on Wednesday night at the Verizon Wireless Arena. Viacheslav Trukhno scored the Falcons' lone goal extending his scoring streak to six games, while goaltender Jeff Deslauriers stopped 36 of 39 shots on goal. Springfield will play back-to-back home games this weekend as they host the San Antonio Rampage for the first time in franchise history on Sunday.
The Sharks head into Springfield having defeated the Lowell Devils by a score of 6-1 Friday night. Worcester used three second period goals breaking open a one-goal contest heading into the middle period. Brad Staubitz
(1g, 2a, 3pts), Riley Armstrong (1g, 2a, 3pts), Graham Mink (1g, 1a, 2 pts), Marc Busenburg (1g, 1a, 2pts) and Mike Iggulden (2a, 2 pts) all recorded multi-point games for the Sharks in the victory on Friday. Goaltender Dimitri Patzold stopped 27 of 28 shots in earning the win between the pipes. The Sharks have recorded at least a point in four of their last five games going 2-1-0-2 in that span. Worcester has a record of 26-28-4-6 good for 62 points and they are only three points behind fifth place Manchester and six points behind fourth place Springfield. The Sharks conclude their weekend when they host Hartford on Sunday.
FALCONS TRANSACTIONS: The Falcons announced Thursday that they have signed forward Tommy Goebel to an Amateur Tryout Agreement (ATO). The Falcons also announced they have reassigned forward Les Reaney to their ECHL affiliate, the Stockton Thunder.
Goebel recently completed his collegiate career with Ohio State University where he led the team in scoring during his senior campaign collecting 21 goals and 15 assists for 36 points in 39 games. The 5-foot-8, 170-pound native of Parma, Ohio spent the last two seasons with Ohio State after transferring from Michigan State University following the 2004-05 campaign. Goebel collected 33 goals and 29 assists for 62 points in 71 career games with Ohio State. In two seasons with Michigan State, he registered 21 goals and 32 assists for 53 points in 76 games.
Reaney signed a standard American Hockey League contract with the Falcons back on February 16 and hasn't appeared in a game since joining Springfield. Reaney is beginning his pro career after spending the last three seasons with Niagara University. In 25 games with Niagara this season, the 6-foot-2, 225-pound native of Ceylon, Saskatchewan tallied five goals and 10 assists for 15 points in 25 games.
On Monday, the Falcons announced they signed center Ryan Garlock to a Professional Tryout Agreement (PTO). Garlock made his Falcons debut on Wednesday night at Manchester. Garlock has spent the majority of the 2007-08 season with the Johnstown Chiefs where he has recorded 26 goals and 35 assists for 61 points in 50 games. The 6-foot, 202-pound native of Iroquois Falls, Ontario was leading the Chiefs in goals, assists and points. Garlock has also played in three games with the Binghamton Senators this season registering one assist. Garlock spent the entire 2006-07 campaign with the AHL's San Antonio Rampage collecting three goals and nine assists for 12 points and 42 penalty minutes. He is in his second season of professional hockey after spending the final three seasons of his junior career with the OHL's Windsor Spitfires. He scored 53 goals and added 68 assists for 121 points in his final 130 games with the Spitfires. Garlock was originally drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the second round (45th overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
WORCESTER SHARKS PLAYER STREAKS: Worcester defenseman Tom Walsh has registered at least a point in four of his last five games collecting one goal and four assists for five points in that stretch....Graham Mink has collected at least a point in four of his last five games registering four goals and three assists in that span.
