Adirondack Phantoms News Release
BRIDGEPORT, CONN. - For a second consecutive night, the Philadelphia Phantoms fell into an early hole and could not climb out, dropping a 4-2 decision to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at the Arena at Harbor Yard. Colton Fretter scored two goals as the Tigers built a 3-1 lead and held off Philadelphia in the third period.
Bridgeport opened the scoring with 7:55 remaining in the first period on Fretter's first of the night. A shot from Trevor Smith took a fortuitous bounce off the end boards and came to Fretter, who pushed it past starter Scott Munroe for the 1-0 lead.
Philadelphia answered with a power play tally just over a minute and a half later. Ryan Potulny fired a shot that Mike Morrison stopped, but Jared Ross jumped on the rebound to tie it at 1-1 with 6:16 to play.
The Sound Tigers jumped back ahead just prior to the intermission on a left point blast by Jamie Fraser that snuck through Munroe's pads. The tally came with 1:19 remaining and gave Bridgeport a 2-1 lead at the break.
That lead grew to 3-1 just 2:34 into the second period when the Tigers capitalized on another power play opportunity. Fretter record his second of the night when he deflected a shot from the right point between Munroe's pads. The goal brought Martin Houle into the game in relief.
Philadelphia closed within a goal less than three minutes later, at the 5:08 mark. Boyd Kane pulled a puck out of the right corner and stepped out in front, where he snapped a wrister that beat Morrison high to make it a 3-2 game. But Philadelphia couldn't find another tally, and the Tigers iced it with a late empty netter.
The East Division race was ratcheted even tighter with the evening's events. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton beat Albany 2-0 to jump past the River Rats into second place - just two points behind the Phantoms. The Rats remain three points back. Hershey lost 5-0 to Manitoba, leaving them in fourth place with 74 points.
The Phantoms return home on Sunday afternoon to host the Portland Pirates on Phlex's 12th birthday at the Spectrum! All of Phlex's mascot friends will be on hand to help celebrate the occasion. Tickets are available at the Wachovia Complex box office, online at ComcastTIX.com or phantomshockey.com, or by phone at 1-800-298-4200.
