Bulldogs Dropped By Marlies

TORONTO, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs suffered their sixth-straight loss by dropping a 4-1 decision to the Toronto Marlies on Saturday afternoon at Ricoh Coliseum. The 'Dogs record now falls to 31-28-2-5 on the season.

The Marlies jumped out to a 2-0 lead with two goals in the first period. Tyler Doig opened the scoring at 6:56 of the frame with his third tally of the campaign. Then at the 13:24 mark, Bates Battaglia notched the eventual game-winning goal with his eighth marker of the season.

With just 31 seconds remaining in the opening stanza, Bulldogs' forward Kyle Chipchura cut the lead in half at 2-1 with his seventh goal of the campaign. Jonathan Ferland poked the puck up to Chipchura who snapped a shot past netminder Scott Clemmensen.

Toronto tallied twice in the middle frame to take a 4-1 lead after 40 minutes of play. Battaglia and Derrick Walser, each picking up their second points of the night, combined to set-up Max Taylor's second tally of the campaign at 4:20 of the period. Alex Foster then rounded out the game's scoring at the 17:05 mark with his 14th goal of the season.

There was no scoring in the third period.

Between the pipes, Yann Danis turned aside 25 of the 29 shots he faced in a losing effort for the Bulldogs, while Clemmensen made 25 saves on 26 shots to earn the win for the Marlies.

Neither team was successful on the power play as Hamilton went 0-for-6 and Toronto was 0-for-5 with the man advantage.

The defending Calder Cup Champion Hamilton Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday, March 19th at 7:00 p.m. when they take on the Syracuse Crunch at Onondaga County War Memorial at Oncenter.
