Rochester Americans News Release
(Rochester, NY)... Greg Mauldin scored just 1:16 into the extra overtime period to give the Binghamton Senators a 4-3 win over the Rochester Americans tonight at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. The loss is Rochester's fourth straight and seventh in its last eight games as the Amerks fell to 18-38-6-4 on the season.
Former Amerk Denis Hamel netted a pair of goals along with eight shots to earn first star honors as he extended his goal and point lead to 30 and 50, respectively. Justin Mapletoft also recorded a two-point night (1+1) for the Senators.
Mark Mancari led the Amerks with a three-point performance (1+2) to garner second star accolades. Dylan Hunter also chipped in with two points (1+1).
Brian Elliott stopped 26 saves to earn the win in net for the Sens as Adam Dennis made a season high 41 saves between the posts for the Amerks who were outshot 45-29 in the contest.
Mapletoft opened the scoring with his 16th of the season at 9:19 of the first period. Niko Dimitrakos and Ilya Zubov were each credited with assists on the play.
Hamel gave the Sens a 2-0 lead 3:33 into the second stanza with his 29th of the season from Josh Hennessey and Derek Smith. The lead was short-lived, however, as Martin Lojek found the back of the net on the power play for his fifth this season to cut Binghamton's lead in half at 6:18 of the period. Mancari and Marc-Andre Gragnani each assisted on the goal.
Binghamton quickly rebounded to take a 3-1 lead as Hamel struck again on the power play to net his 30th of the season and second of the contest.
Hunter sparked Rochester's come-from-behind rally with a power play goal at 13:12 of the second period. Mancari notched his second assist along with Yannick Tifu on Hunter's 15th marker this season. Mancari made it a 3-3 game, scoring the equalizer and only goal of the third period at the 13:25 mark.
Mauldin needed only a 1:16 more of extra time to net the game-winner and give Binghamton its third straight win.
