Albany River Rats News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY - The Albany River Rats announced today forwards Pat Dwyer and Joe Jensen have been recalled by the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League.
Dwyer, 24, heads to Raleigh for the first NHL call up of his professional career. The Great Falls, Montana native, who has 19 points (11 goals, 8 assists) and a +6 rating in 54 games for Albany this season, will be looking to make his NHL debut with Carolina on Sunday afternoon. Dwyer was drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers in the fourth round (116th overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft and joined the Chicago Wolves, Atlanta's AHL affiliate following a four-year NCAA Division I career at Western Michigan University. Dwyer spent the 2005-06 season with the Wolves, then signed a two-year contract with Carolina on July 7, 2006 as a free agent.
Jensen, 25, returns to Carolina for the second time this season, after making his NHL debut with the 'Canes on February 18th against the New Jersey Devils at the Prudential Center. The Hurricanes acquired the Maple Grove, Minnesota, native on January 31st from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for forward David Gove. Since that time, Jensen has eight points (6 goals, 2 assists) in 18 games for Albany; he had four points (2 goals, 2 assists) in 27 games for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton prior to the trade. Jensen was drafted by Pittsburgh in the eighth round (232nd overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft; he played four years of Division I college hockey for St. Cloud State University.
Dwyer becomes the tenth River Rats player to be called up to Raleigh this season and the 13th player to skate with both Carolina and Albany this season. Both Jensen and Dwyer were called up as Carolina announced that they have placed forwards Ray Whitney and Wade Brookbank on the injured reserve. The two Albany forwards are expected to be in the lineup for the Hurricanes on Sunday when they host the Ottawa Senators at 3:00 pm at the RBC Center.
Albany is preparing for a massive East Division match up against former River Rat Dave Gove and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Saturday night at the Times Union Center.
