
P-Bruins Defeat Devils in Overtime 4-3

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Lowell Devils 4-3 in overtime Sunday afternoon in front of 7,834 fans at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got goals from T.J. Trevelyan, Byron Bitz, Nate Thompson and Matt Hendricks. The 39-12-2-1 Atlantic Division leading P-Bruins are back in action Thursday at the XL Center versus the Hartford Wolf Pack at 7:00 p.m. Providence moves six points ahead of the second place Wolf Pack.
The P-Bruins took the lead at the 3:09 mark of the opening period. Nate Thompson worked the puck to the right point for Brett Skinner, who shot the puck towards the net. Trevelyan tipped the puck to redirect it past Devils goaltender Frank Doyle and into the net for his 15th goal of the season. Providence grabbed a 2-0 advantage at the 13:01 mark. Bitz redirected the puck into the net off a shot from Skinner, while on the power play. For Bitz, it was his fifth goal of the season, while Pascal Pelletier picked up the second assist. Lowell cut the lead in half with a power play goal of its own at the 14:07 mark. Rod Pelley scored his first goal of the season with Barry Tallackson and Grant Marshall recording the assists. Providence took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.
After a scoreless second and third period, the P-Bruins scored only 19 seconds into the third period. Chris Collins sent the puck to Jeff Hoggan at the right point. He shot the puck where it was deflected by Thompson into the net for his 11th goal of the season. The Devils battled back to tied the game at three and force overtime. At the 7:55 mark, Ryan Murphy tallied his fourth goal of the season, with Marshall and Rosario Ruggeri getting the assists. At the 7:55 mark, Tallackson picked up his 18th goal of the season, with Petr Vrana and Ruggeri recording the assists.
In overtime, at the 3:48 mark, the Devils tried clearing the zone, but Hendricks got a piece of the puck and it landed on the stick of Aaron Slattengren, giving the P-Bruins a 2-on-1 opportunity. Slattengren dished the puck to Hendricks who sent it between the legs of Doyle and into the net as the P-Bruins went on to the 4-3 victory.
Tuukka Rask stopped 12 of 15 shots for the P-Bruins, while Doyle made 35 saves for the Devils. The P-Bruins were 1-for-4 on the power play and 5-for-6 on the penalty kill.
The Atlantic Division-leading P-Bruins now head on a seven game road trip before returning to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Friday, March 7 against the Binghamton Senators for T-Shirt Night at 7:05 p.m. The P-Bruins road trip begins Thursday in Hartford and the P-Bruins will be hosting a road game party at Union Station Brewery in Providence.
