Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI - Matt Ellison and Cal O'Reilly each picked up two goals and an assist and Pekka Rinne stopped 23 shots to lead the Admirals to a 4-0 win over the Rockford IceHogs Sunday afternoon at the Bradley Center.
The fans that made the trek to the Bradley Center with icy conditions outside were treated to two fired up teams. In a game that featured multiple fights and hard hitting checks up and down the ice, there was no love lost between foes. They ought to get use to seeing the same as Milwaukee will take on Rockford three more times in the next ten days.
Milwaukee and Rockford went end to end for most of the first period but it was not until midway through the second period that Milwaukee would break the scoreless tie. With a swarm of Admirals surrounding the net, defenseman Mark Matheson fired a shot along the ice that deflected off of Ellison and past netminder Corey Crawford.
With five minutes to go in the second frame, Milwaukee Capitan Alex Henry and Rockford Capitan Jim Fahey jumped the gun on a faceoff and picked up a roughing penalty that set up the four on four. With open ice to work with, Cal O'Reilly and Jason Guerriero pulled off a textbook give and go with O'Reilly streaking towards the net before finishing it off with a wrist shot under the upper-right crossbar.
Cal would grab another goal at the 10:42 mark of the third as Milwaukee took full advantage of a power play opportunity. Cal poked in a loose Crawford rebound from of a John Vigilante crossing pass that slowly rolled across the goal line to get the 3-0 lead.
The Admirals capitalized on an errant Crawford clearing pass that was intercepted by O'Reilly to put Milwaukee up 4-0 . O'Reilly gave a pass to Ellison, whose one-time shot beat Crawford in the race back to the net.
O'Reilly continued his red hot play with three points less than 24-hours after earning five points in a win over Grand Rapids Saturday night. Ellison would match O'Reilly with three points, including the game-winning goal. Netminder Rinne was especially big in the first and second periods, stopping 21 shots in the first 40 minutes of play. The shutout marked Rinne's fourth of the season.
Milwaukee will return to the Bradley Center on Tuesday night as they play host to the Quad City Flames for a 7:00 pm faceoff. Fans can purchase tickets for any home game by calling the Admirals office at (414) 227-0550, or by logging onto www.ticketmaster.com.
