PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Lowell Devils were able to post a third-period rally to force overtime, but the Providence Bruins were ultimately victorious, 4-3, on Sunday at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The overtime loss was the only blemish on the Devils' record this weekend after two wins over Manchester.

After forty minutes of hockey produced only a 2-1 lead for the Bruins, the third period saw a glut of scoring. Providence needed only 19 seconds to lift their lead to two as Jeff Hoggan kept the puck in the Lowell zone and fired a quick shot that was tipped in by Nate Thompson.

It didn't take long for the Devils to respond and tie the contest. Four minutes after Thompson's goal, it was Ryan Murphy sniping a shot from the near side that found the far corner of the Bruins' net. Lowell then made the score 3-3 at 7:55 when Petr Vrana rushed up ice to muscle a one-handed shot in on Tuukka Rask. Rask made the save, but Barry Tallackson was there to deposit the rebound for his 18th goal of the year.

Though Providence owned a 37-13 shot advantage through regulation, the two teams would head to overtime. Matt Hendriks sealed the game for the Bruins at 3:48 when he picked up a failed clearing attempt by the Devils and snuck a backhander through the five-hole of Frank Doyle. Doyle made 35-of-39 saves in suffering the loss.

Providence pounced on the Devils 3:08 into the contest, taking a 1-0 lead on T.J. Trevelyan's deflection of Brett Skinner's point shot. Providence used the man-advantage 10 minutes later to go up by two goals on yet another tip shot of a Skinner shot. This time, it was Byron Bitz stationed in front of the net who was the benefactor.

Despite being outshot 12-3 in the first period, the Devils entered the first intermission down by only one thanks to Rod Pelley's first goal for Lowell. Pelley unleashed a wrist shot from the near circle that beat Rask to the glove side at 14:07.

The Devils were 1-for-6 on the man-advantage and 3-for-4 on the penalty kill.
