(TRAVERSE CITY, MICHIGAN) - The Evansville Otters (48-32) were swept in a doubleheader at the Traverse City Beach Bums on Wednesday night, losing the opening game 4-1 and the finale 5-2.

With the losses, Evansville is now in a three-way tie for second place in the Frontier League East Division and will be looking to avoid a sweep on Thursday night at Wuerfel Park.

Down 1-0, Evansville tied the opener of the doubleheader with a third inning RBI single from infielder Phillip Wilson. However, the Otters left the bases loaded in the second, third and seventh innings of the game.

Tied at one, Traverse City then rallied back to score three more runs in the bottom of the third inning.

Evansville was unable to strike back on the scoreboard, leaving nine men on base and losing 4-1. LHP Jose Velez (1-4) took the loss, despite going a complete game and striking out 11 hitters on the night.

Evansville went ahead in game two on a second inning home run from outfielder Chris Sweeney. It was his 17th of the season and has the fourth most home runs hit in Otters single season franchise history. Catcher Kolin Conner added an RBI double later in the inning for the 2-0 lead.

However, Traverse City had another answer. The Beach Bums scored four runs in the home half of the third inning. RHP Trevor Walch gave up a lead-off single and walk before Otters manager Andy McCauley was ejected for arguing balls and strikes. After a double play, Traverse City had four consecutive RBI hits to produce a 4-2 lead.

The Beach Bums added a run in the fourth for the 5-2 lead. LHP Alex Phillips allowed just two runs over 6.0 innings and reliever Chuck Ghysels struck out the tying runner in the seventh for the doubleheader sweep.

Reliever Kody Boutte made his pro debut for the Otters in game two, going 2.0 scoreless innings. Outfielder J.R. Higley was also 2-for-3 with a double and triple as well.

RHP William Oliver (2-0, 2.63 ERA) will take the ball in the series finale for Evansville on Thursday. First pitch is 6:05 pm CDT. The game can be heard live on WUEV 91.5 FM beginning at 5:45 pm CDT.
