Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

TRAVERSE CITY, MI - Yazy Arbelo launched a two-run homer in the last of the 10th inning, giving the Traverse City Beach Bums a 4-2 walk-off win over the Evansville Otters on Thursday night at Wuerfel Park. The blast completed Traverse City's third sweep of the year.

The two-run shot was Arbelo's 16th of the year and first walk-off home run for a Beach Bums player this season. The only other walk-off was a Jake Rhodes' double in the 11th inning on July 4.

In the decisive 10th inning, Chuck Ghysels (2-3) entered for Traverse City and struck out the side around a hit batter to keep things tied. Evan Mott (3-2) came in for Evansville and walked Scott Woodward on nine pitches before serving up the homer to Arbelo.

Traverse City jumped on top in the very first inning with a pair of runs. With runners at second and third and nobody out, Arbelo sliced a single to left to put TC ahead 1-0. Jovan Rosa would drive in the second run with a sacrifice fly.

Evansville chipped back into the contest with a run in the second on a sacrifice fly from J.R. Higley and a third-inning RBI double from Shayne Houck to knot things at two.

Both starting pitchers then took over to keep the game even. Ian MacDougall started for Traverse City and went seven innings, allowing two runs on six hits with five strikeouts. It marked the fourth consecutive outing for MacDougall of at least seven innings in length while allowing two runs or less.

The Otters' Will Oliver matched MacDougall pitch-for-pitch by firing seven frames as well. He allowed two runs, one earned, on seven hits with eight strikeouts in a no-decision.

Both teams had opportunities to take the lead in regulation as Evansville stranded 10 and Traverse City left eight, but both pitching staffs worked out of all of the jams.

Traverse City now hits the road for a three-game series against the Normal CornBelters starting Friday night at 8:00 p.m. ET. Casey Delgado (6-5, 3.33) will start for TC against Normal's Matt Packer (3-2, 2.48). Fans can listen to the broadcast starting at 7:45 p.m. on Classic Rock the Bear 98.1/107.1 and classicrockthebear.com.
